A New Chapter for Lotus Foods' Millet & Brown Rice Ramen

We’re excited to share some news about our Millet & Brown Rice Ramen! To keep bringing you the highest quality ramen at a fair price, we’ve recently begun transitioning production from China to Thailand.

This change helps us avoid high import tariffs that would have increased prices, while also allowing us to deepen our positive impact on smallholder rice farmers and the environment. Our new Thai partners share our commitment to organic farming and sustainable rice cultivation.

What You Might Notice

We’re now producing our gluten-free ramen at two suppliers in Thailand, both dedicated to maintaining the integrity and quality you expect from Lotus Foods. You may notice a few subtle differences — a slightly firmer bite, a shiny or curlier noodle — but still the same simple ingredients: organic brown rice and organic millet.

  • The noodles from one supplier have a brighter yellow-brown hue and appear slightly shiny. This happens naturally from the type of rice and an improved noodle-making process—no oil or additives are used. The ramen cakes have a familiar wavy pattern and are slightly thicker.

  • The noodles from the other supplier are curlier, like the classic instant ramen. They are slightly thinner, with a light yellow-beige hue.

Both noodles hold up beautifully in soups, sauces, and stir-fries and have a slightly firmer, more al dente texture that ramen fans will love. Cooking Tip: Due to slight differences in equipment and rice varieties used in each facility, the ramen has new cooking instructions on the package. For best results, add them to a rolling boil (high heat), wait 6-7 minutes, and then stir them frequently with tongs or chopsticks during the last couple minutes of cooking to help them separate fully. As always, drain and rinse with cold water to reduce sticking.

Same Gluten-Free, Organic Ingredients, Same Simplicity

Rest assured—our ramen is still made with just two simple ingredients: organic brown rice and organic millet. It remains Certified Gluten-Free, Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and Kosher. Any small differences you see or taste are simply the result of new Thai-grown organic rice and slightly different noodle-making equipment.

Still the Ramen You Love

In blind taste tests, both of the new ramen noodles were rated just as highly as our original ramen. We hope you love them as much as we do and feel good knowing every bowl helps support smallholder farmers and the planet—one step closer to changing how rice is grown around the world.
