Our Organic White and Brown Jasmine Rice is grown by Lowell Farms in El Campo, Texas. We first met Lowell (L.G.) Raun, a third generation rice farmer, in 1994. The Raun Family has been farming rice for almost 100 years on the fertile plains of the Texas Gulf Coast. L.G.’s grandfather, George Raun moved to Texas from Nebraska in 1913 and raised his first rice crop in 1915. His three sons followed his lead and became rice producers. Today the Raun brothers and many of their children and grandchildren continue the family tradition of growing rice on the same land in Wharton County.

In the 1980s, L.G and his wife Linda were visiting the Pacific Northwest. They saw what was going on in the organic movement there and came back to Texas inspired to grow rice organically. Because the microclimate of the Gulf Coast emulates that of Thailand, it was inevitable that his research would lead him to an original Thai seed stock. This authentic jasmine rice has a natural nutty aroma and flavor that surpassed the jasmine rice that was currently being marketed in the US.

We immediately fell in love with its floral aroma and slightly sticky texture. Although we could have chosen to import any jasmine rice from Thailand, we chose this rice for its superior flavor profile, as well as for the fact that it was the first organic jasmine rice available. It is the high heat and humidity of the fertile Gulf Coast plains, organic growing methods and genuine Thai seed stock that give our rice its deeply authentic jasmine aroma.
